London Spoken Academy was designed and prepared by Ensermu Workneh, an Ethiopian educator who has lived in the United Kingdom for more than twenty years.
In Ethiopia, English is the medium of instruction from primary school. Yet many highly educated Ethiopians — engineers, doctors, graduates — still struggle to speak the language fluently. The reason is simple: the system taught translation, not speaking.
“My students could read Shakespeare. They could not order a coffee without freezing. This programme exists to close that gap.”
This is not a traditional English course. It is a complete English communication transformation programme — built specifically around the sounds, rhythms and phrasal verbs that Ethiopian learners are most likely to miss.
Behind the design and creation of this course are qualifications directly related to language teaching — but also the non-traditional training in Received Pronunciation, voice projection, and speaking with clarity and confidence. It is the combination of these disciplines that makes this programme invaluable.
It is uniquely designed to transform the spoken English of Ethiopians — focusing on exactly what they need. The curriculum draws from lived experience, careful research into what was missing from traditional instruction, and a deep understanding of the core challenges Ethiopian learners face when speaking.
The NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Practitioner training plays an equally central role. It is the engine behind the transformational nature of the course — from understanding the root causes of speaking anxiety, to designing practice that prepares learners for the real world. Past educational limitations and personality patterns can be shifted. This course is built to help learners arrive ready, transformed, and confident.
